FAKEAR & Friends: PROJEKTBAU

Fakear now has a residency at Gretchen and invites a special guest each time. Fakear integrates global musical influences into innovative music, creating spaces and opportunities for cross-genre collaborations and encounters. An approach that we support with our residencies. To kick things off, he has invited the Berlin producer Projektbau.

French musician, producer and beatmaker Fakear has been working on his own vision of global electronica since 2011. He combines world music, hip-hop, modern beats and various electronica styles, be it European house textures, post-dubstep or other sounds from the British and American underground. The result is floating melodies and complex rhythmic structures that often create a meditative atmosphere: instinctive and organic, cinematic and concrete at the same time. Inspired by the likes of Bonobo, Flume, Kaytranada, Odesza and Flying Lotus, he continues to develop his sonic aesthetic, pursuing more experimental approaches and increasingly incorporating field recordings and acoustic sounds.

Projektbau's artistic influence and inspiration has never been tied to a specific local scene. Based in Berlin, but never feeling at home anywhere, and growing up a nerd in a small town, the real community has always been digital and decentralised. Influenced by a wide variety of genres, Projektbau searches for a coherent and distinctive sound to tell personal stories authentically. Building on the emotive sounds of artists such as Burial and Overmono, Projektbau offers a nostalgic and introspective take on music that lends itself to emotional rollercoaster rides in the club, best experienced while dancing.
