ISLANDMAN
Islandman (Rest in Space Rec., Music for Dreams/TR) *live*
Sean Steinfeger (Opening DJ-Set/D)
Islandman are touring with a new album, taking listeners on a multilayered journey through Istanbul’s neo-Turkish psychedelia.
With their upcoming album Island5, Islandman unveil their most intricate and striking soundscape to date. Scheduled for release in autumn 2025, the record blends the ancient musical traditions of Anatolia with a modern electronic aesthetic, expanding the sound that has earned the band acclaim for years: an atmospheric synthesis of contemporary sound design and deeply rooted cultural identity.
For Islandman, Anatolian music is not a relic of the past but a living, breathing heritage that is constantly evolving. Traditional melodies and instruments merge with innovative compositions and electronic textures to create what the band calls “neo-Turkish psychedelia” – a continuation rather than a reinvention. Here, the past is not preserved in amber, but transformed and woven into the sonic fabric of today.
Founded by Tolga Böyük, Islandman has grown into a trio, joined by the psychedelic guitar work of Erdem Başer and the meditative percussion of Eralp Güven. As a fluid sonic collective, they move between acoustic and electronic worlds, between ritual and dance, quiet reflection and ecstatic intensity. Their live shows are immersive, profound, and hypnotic.
Since their debut Rest in Space (2017), with its dreamlike, Balearic-inspired atmosphere, Islandman have continually refined their musical language. Kaybola (2020) fused Anatolian tradition with Western musical idioms, while Godless Ceremony (2021) embraced a more organic and spiritual sound. Their most recent album, Popsicle Obstacle (2023), marked a shift toward a digital sonic utopia, where analog warmth and electronic precision melt into one another.
With Island5, they strike the perfect balance: a richly layered album that captures the urban complexity of Istanbul, embedding the band’s musical signatures – ambient textures, modal scales, and ceremonial percussion – in a lush, analog synthesizer landscape.
