SHAKE STEW - 10 Years
SHAKE STEW - 10 Years
Shake Stew (Traumton/AT) *live*
For a decade, the award-winning rising stars Shake Stew (Amadeus Music Award, German Jazz Prize) have been shaking up the jazz scene—and for their anniversary, they’re taking it up a notch. In a spectacular live show, they’ll present the first two parts of their new triple album TEN ONE TWO THREE, proving once again why their concerts have long achieved cult status.
Few bands have turned the Central European jazz scene on its head like Shake Stew. While ZEIT hailed them as “Austria’s jazz band of the moment,” and the NDR early on crowned them a “cult band,” the Amadeus Music Award 2023 and the German Jazz Prize 2021 in the category “International Band of the Year” made it clear: something unprecedented is happening here—and it shows no sign of slowing down!
2026 marks their 10-year anniversary—and it wouldn’t be Shake Stew if they didn’t celebrate it with a musical spectacle: the three-part album project TEN ONE TWO THREE. The first two parts, featuring entirely new music, drop in spring, with the third arriving in the fall. The band is also opening a new chapter lineup-wise for the anniversary year: one of the scene’s most exciting newcomers, Yvonne Moriel, joins the band, adding a fresh tonal dimension to Shake Stew’s sound.
From the very beginning, the ensemble—founded by bassist and composer Lukas Kranzelbinder—has carried a mystical aura, creating an irresistibly immersive experience in live performance: “The unspoken magic words are energy and enchantment—Shake Stew brings something cult-like to contemporary jazz, a real enrichment!” wrote the German Record Critics’ Jury in 2020 when including the band in their best-of list. MOJO magazine went even further: “Able to blind you into a trance and make you dance to your knees, Shake Stew twists, blisters and burns like a fevered dream!”
Despite their unconventional lineup—two drummers, two bassists, and three horn players—the band consistently connects with audiences of all ages in an incredibly direct way, whether in a packed club or the sold-out Main Hall of the Vienna Konzerthaus. “You don’t have to like jazz to love Shake Stew: Lukas Kranzelbinder’s band is ecstatic from head to toe. Or, to quote Nietzsche: This isn’t music, it’s dynamite!” (Wiener Zeitung)
Hypnotic soundscapes and driving rhythms have defined the band’s sound from day one. Just when you think you’ve cracked the magic formula of this musical stew, Shake Stew reveals the full sonic breadth of their unique instrumentation: on the edge of absolute silence, delicate sonic structures emerge as if from nowhere, floating atop trance-like bass lines and gong patterns, touching listeners just as profoundly as the preceding groove explosions.
“Something emanates from this band that is new, special—and incredibly compelling,” wrote ZEIT. After ten years, countless concerts across Europe and beyond, and seven albums, one thing is clear: Shake Stew is more than just a jazz band—they are an event.
For this event we offer discounted tickets to give people with less money still access to culture. These quotas are limited and only available at TixforGigs.
