WNBL invites KOTA NO UTA

WNBL is a collective of nine young musicians based in Berlin and Potsdam, who bring an unique blend of influences from electronic music, jazz and hiphop with a matchless energy onto the stage. With “WNBL invites”, they have a residency at Gretchen. As part of their constantly evolving approach to music, they invite artists to create spaces for musical experiences.

Kota No Uta is a Berlin based artist, producer and singer-songwriter. Her experimental sound is rooted in neo-soul, psychedelic soul. A multicultural story teller, by nature, Kota writes her lyrics through the prism of metaphor and mythology, often inspired by daily observations of surroundings. In 2023 Kota won a Female* Producer Prize by Sony Music Entertainment Germany and Music Woman, meanwhile releasing collaborative singles with various producers.

WNBL themselves come with a powerful brass section and a rhythm section consisting of two drummers. All those involved are musically socialised in Berlin's club culture, they all listen to dub, bass music and broken beats. they take jazz at its word and play impressive live sets with ecstatic beats, exciting improvisation and wonderful arrangements.

DJ Alkarline, whose name is inspired by the alakali-manganese cell, also known colloquially as an alkaline or alkali-manganese battery, ensures that the energy stores remain charged throughout the evening with groovy electronica.
